Info
At de Jut Fabriek Terschelling, you’ll search for plastic beach litter. By doing this, you’ll see the beach in a different light—there is so much plastic! But is plastic waste or a resource? Pick it up, bring it along, and together we’ll see if it can be transformed into a new recycled product!
De Jut Fabriek, together with residents and island guests, is committed to making Terschelling more plastic-free. We aim to give collected plastic a second life by transforming it into a sustainable product. In short, this means: collecting plastic from the beach – sorting – cleaning – shredding – washing – drying – processing. During Oerol, we are temporarily relocating our factory to the beach near de Deining and would love to take you on the journey from plastic waste to a new recycled product. Curious about how this process works? Join us for one of the workshops!
Workshop 1: ‘The Oerol Beachcomber Week’ | Ongoing workshop
After the successful 2023 edition, we are again searching for waste on the beach this year. Pick up a Beachcomber bag and get started. You’ll recognize much of the waste immediately, but you’ll also find plenty that will surprise you!
Workshop 2: ‘The Mermaid’s Sorrow’ | Fixed times
‘The Mermaid’s Sorrow’ is a true quest to find the mermaid’s tears. Her tears are hidden in the sand or stuck in washed-up grass. Search for her tears to make the beach cry a little less. This activity is ‘unfortunately’ made possible in part by the MSC Zoë.
Finished Beachcombing?
After both activities, we welcome you back to our container where we will explain what Stichting De Jutfabriek stands for and what we are doing to make the beach a bit cleaner. You can also see how we turn the collected plastic directly into a new product! Please note: the start and end of both workshops is at our Jutfabriek container, West aan Zee, festival Hub De Deining.
