Info
A woman whose partner comes out as gay after a long relationship is left behind in a state of doubt. While he rediscovers himself and fully flourishes, she struggles to understand what their bond actually meant. Amidst memories and suppressed desires, two characters search through language and dance for a new narrative.
De Oare kant is the final performance in Romke Gabe Draaijer’s trilogy exploring the search for and longing for self-expression among certain gay men coming to terms with their identity (following Pinokkio lost time and Morphosis, created during his talent development trajectory at Tryater). Like its predecessors, this production is based on interviews. The texts of lead actress Nynke Heeg (known for Foekje, Fanfare, among others) merge with the choreography of Singaporean waacking dancer Amin Alifin; a dance style developed in the underground queer club scene of Los Angeles in the 1970s, characterized by stylish arm movements, striking poses, and self-expression.
