Info
To dismantle oil and gas platforms, they are lifted from the sea, dismantled, recycled, and reused on land. This film follows the dismantling of these massive artificial islands. We don’t encounter any people; machines clear up the remnants left at sea by humanity.
The film follows the rhythm of the platform: tranquil scenes capture the platform’s unique world until sudden violence erupts. This cycle mirrors the sea’s own rhythms when an oil or gas field reaches the end of production: pressure drops, a massive explosion follows, and the oil flows back up, after which the process – called fracking – is repeated by the operators. This film immerses you in the violence by taking on the perspective of the machines.
This Expedition can be visited daily from June 8th, between 11:00 and 17:00.
