Info
Katrien van Beurden performs the one-woman show Harlekino: a true story you don’t have to believe. It is a tale of survival, survivors, masks, and memories. Balancing between reality and imagination, she creates a cinematic storm of stories; raw, comic, and bursting with energy. Featuring music by Remy van Kesteren.
For years, Katrien van Beurden raced across the globe with a suitcase full of commedia masks. Until, suddenly, she was forced to lie still. A new mother with cancer in her breast, she listens to the monotonous beep of the MRI and wonders: how exactly do you lie still? From that standstill, a journey unfolds through the ultimate survivors she has met—the Harlequins. Like Kaatje, the eight-year-old girl who, singing at the top of her lungs, stuffs her deceased brother’s coffin with toys. In a house drowning in grief and anger, she discovers early on that play and imagination are her most faithful allies.
