Choosing Memoria means preparing for a mysterious experience; it starts right after purchasing your ticket and lasts for two years. Memoria is inspired by the Dream Temples of ancient Greece, where people were healed through dreams and visions. During this edition of Oerol, the initiation ceremony takes place. Do you dare to embark on this journey of discovery?
Theatre-maker Alexandra Broeder/Tijd van de Wolf invited visitors at Oerol 2023 in The Cure to transform into a tree, during an alienating ritual performed by children from the island. Memoria also invites surrender and letting go of your human nature. You can recognise elements from her previous work, such as De Zone: a theatre experience where the visitor visited different locations over several days and also received messages at home. Memoria takes it a step further: this experience lasts two year, even when you return to so-called real life. Welcome.
