Opening Oerol Festival 2026

Welcome to festival hub de Deining, the beating heart of Oerol for ten days, just behind the dunes at West aan Zee. Our gates open on Friday 12 June with a whirlwind mix of music, poetry, and performance. Catch troubadours Knaap & De Vos and the operatic talent of San Cha at de Vallei, Mensen Zeggen Dingen in De Stamkroeg, and Hellie spinning tracks as our resident DJ. Opening day is set to be electric!

The first day of the festival is a journey of discovery through the beating heart of Oerol. Our main stage, de Vallei, returns as a place packed with atmosphere, beats, and stories. New this year is de Stamkroeg, where spoken word, talks, and music collide. One moment you’ll be lost in a deep conversation, the next you’ll be screaming your lungs out at a punk gig. And don’t forget to grab your merch, tickets, and a cup of coffee while you’re here. Our delicious food line-up is also ready, offering plenty of choice for hungry festival-goers. Enjoy the music, spoken word, summer vibes, and a spectacular dinner. End the day on the dance floor — Klup Soundsystem & Pete Blaker will dance you straight into the night!

14:15 | San Cha
Who better to kick off our festival than San Cha? This Mexican-American artist, composer, and performance artist blends traditional and contemporary sounds, spanning rancheras, electronica, cumbia, opera, and pop.

15:30 | Official opening
Hosts Lin An Phoa and Daan Doesborgh kick off the festival alongside artistic director Sabine Pater. They bring along a vibrant sampler of the Oerol programme: music from San Cha, poetry by Sanne van Balen, and we talk to theatre maker George Tobal about the importance of the arts.

15:45 | Julia Sabaté
Julia Sabaté presents her debut album Egoísta in a powerful live show, where Mediterranean influences and Latin American rhythms intertwine.

16:45 & 18:30 | FLOSS
FLOSS combines riot grrrl energy with club beats to brew her very own subgenre: Angry Feminist Techno Pop. Sitting still is not an option.

17:30 | Fellatio
Prepare to be swept away by this live experience. This self-proclaimed ‘krautdisco’ trio delivers an atmospheric, sometimes unsettling, and thoroughly unexpected sound. Demonic disco straight from the concrete suburbs of Rotterdam!

18:30 | Hellie
Oerol simply wouldn’t be Oerol without Hellie. In her sets, contemporary music effortlessly converses with vinyl from the distant past — and the dance floor always feels it. Come and dance!

18:30 | Dinner at de Deining
Every evening features a spectacular dinner at de Deining. Pull up a chair for some grilled goodness, where everything revolves around open-fire cooking using the local treasures of Terschelling. Please note: you will need to purchase a separate ticket to join the dinner. More info here.

19:45 | Mensen Zeggen Dingen @ de Stamkroeg
Mensen Zeggen Dingen is the ultimate stage for wordcraft, and you can find them every single evening in De Stamkroeg at the festival hub. Start your evening with top-tier spoken word, poetry, and prose. Featuring performances by: Lindertje Mans, Lin An Phoa, and Daan Doesborgh.

20:30 | Zawose Queens
The Zawose Queens are Pendo and Leah Zawose: the first female lead singers from their renowned musical family, bringing the fluid polyrhythms and polyphonic vocals of the Gogo people from central Tanzania’s Dodoma region to the stage.

21:00 | To Pee or not to Pee
The toilet rave is back: welcome to Loo Loo Land! Every evening from 21:00 to 23:00, it’s a roaring party right by the toilets at de Deining! You read that right! Come along, let your hips sway, and watch the time drift away!

21:30 | Klup Soundsystem & Pete Blaker
With house music as their jumping-off point and plenty of room for unexpected detours, KLUP SOUNDSYSTEM & PETE BLAKER move effortlessly across genres and atmospheres. Their DJ sets combine groove, energy, and pure character. Close out the first night of Oerol by losing yourself on the dance floor.
