Theatre maker Davy Pieters is exploring the changing relationship between water and the lives of people living in coastal regions. She engages in conversations with coastal communities around the world about what it means to live in areas that are under threat or are already disappearing. What is it like to live with this reality? How do people cope with these changes?
Stories of the Shore is evolving into a cinematic, visually rich and musical performance by the sea, bringing together different international coastal perspectives, with water itself playing a central role. During her residencies on Terschelling, Davy Pieters is researching contemporary life along the coast and speaking with a range of island residents.
During Oerol, she invites you into her creative process. She will share excerpts from her research and the first pieces of sound material, at the very place at the heart of the project. With the sea as a backdrop—where water is both a source of life and a looming threat—she invites you to connect with this reality.
Stories of the Shore is part of Werkplaats Oerol, where emerging and established makers, often in collaboration with partners, are given the space to develop site-inspired work. During the festival, several of these makers explicitly invite audiences to take part in their work in progress.
