What if you yourself become part of the story? In What happens when we meet?, you step into a Nordic Live Action Role Play and play one of eight cousins during three pivotal reunions. Old patterns, hidden tensions and unexpected choices determine how the story unfolds.
What happens when we meet? is not a performance, but a world in which you play and decide for yourself. You choose one of eight carefully developed characters and step into a family story where tensions rise and emotions run high. This is a game without an audience; an exclusive experience for eight participants. You begin with a workshop led by actress and Via Berlin’s artistic director Dagmar Slagmolen. No acting experience is required. You are then drawn into the game, which you do not play to win, but to experience, to feel and to discover what it is like to step into someone else’s shoes. Gathered around a richly laid table, with a vegetarian lunch or dinner, the story unfolds and you determine how it ends.
Via Berlin developed this new form of Nordic LARP as part of the European Horizon project Men4Dem. This theatrical game connects art, science and society in exploring themes such as femininity, masculinity, radicalisation and democracy. What happens when we meet? will have its international premiere in Poland in May 2026. The Dutch premiere takes place during Oerol. The Nordic LARP will then tour to Italy, Greece, Germany and Sweden, where it will be played in collaboration with Men4Dem’s partner organisations.
