Rita Hoofwijk / SoAP | Raaklijn

As part of Werkplaats Oerol, we have collaborated with SoAP Maastricht and artist Rita Hoofwijk on a project exploring the island's natural areas without a festival permit. In 2024, we met at the boundary between the festival and the protected nature reserve. At ten locations, visitors were invited through site-specific audio fragments to find and stay at the tangential point. Rita Hoofwijk stayed on Terschelling in March, April, and June for Oerol Werkplaats residencies to develop Raaklijn. This project will continue over the coming years.

Ferhat Kaplan / RAST | Bergen Verzetten

Bergen Verzetten tells the story of two high-ranking associates who are forced to take on the task of packaging drugs themselves. This work evokes confronting memories of their past, filled with irreversible choices in career, love, and family life. Ferhat Kaplan, who grew up in the tough streets of Brabant, created this performance with a human perspective on the charismatic men he knew. Bergen Verzetten was Ferhat Kaplan's directorial debut, and he participated in the Atelier Lab as part of Werkplaats Oerol in 2023.

Michelle Samba | Gateways

In Gateways, meters-long woven hair stretches out into the surroundings. At the ends of the braids, sticks are attached that allow the audience to play a sound installation. The sounds of numerous gongs in the forest create a cohesive composition in the hands of the public. Michelle Samba, a versatile musician and artist affiliated with the Marina Abramovic Institute, uses performance art, music, and installation in this work. Michelle Samba is part of the talent development program Station Noord and received support from Oerol Werkplaats, Explore the North, and Tryater in the development of Gateways.

Meet the salt-loving community, Luna Muijs

De Onkruidenier | Meet the Salt-Loving Community

Meet the Salt-Loving Community invites you to turn the tide and re-embrace the sea in your daily life. Enhance your sense of the landscape and discover how you are connected to the sea by viewing the world through the eyes of your aquatic ancestors. The Onkruidenier flips the perspective and teaches us to adapt to the climate challenges of our time. The Onkruidenier came to Terschelling in February 2024 for a residency within Werkplaats Oerol to develop this project.

Doorgronding, Luna Muijs

Sjoerd Willem Bosch / Dr. Heleen van Londen | Doorgronding

Doorgronding allows you to experience the invisible landscape of a bygone Terschelling. Based on archaeological research into drowned villages and vanished structures, the installation reveals the world beneath your feet. Since 2023, archaeology students and islanders have been investigating Terschelling’s past through the CARE Schylge project, and their findings form the basis for this installation. Sjoerd Willem Bosch and Jesse Verdoes translate these stories into an experience in the dunes, in collaboration with Dr. Heleen van Londen and the Wadden Academy. Sjoerd Willem Bosch and Dr. Heleen van Londen were on Terschelling in February 2024 for a residency within Werkplaats Oerol to develop this project.
