Discover Bamba Wassoulou Groove, founded in 2013 in the capital of Mali, Bamako, by the legendary Bamba Dembelé. This dynamic band revitalises and modernises Mali’s rich musical tradition with their hypnotic guitars and soulful vocals.
The sound of Bamba Wassoulou Groove is both rock-infused and bluesy. Guitarist Moussa Diabaté brings a bluesy tone and has previously played with the legendary Super Rail Band from Mali (think Cuban jazz) and Ballaké Sissoko’s ensemble. Guitarist Mamadou ‘Bainy’ Diabaté leans more towards rock but also draws inspiration from traditional kamale ngoni players. Then there’s vocalist Ousmane Diakité, whose raw voice evokes memories of Southern soul singers. They are backed by bassist Aboubacar ‘Papis’ Diombana and the seasoned drummer Maguett Diop, who played with the Super Rail Band for almost 20 years.
