Broer and Zus have lived in their family home their entire lives. One day, the living room is taken over by unknown forces. Who are these intruders in their house? Room by room, they lose their lives. Within Werkplaats Oerol, the team from Niet Mijn Huis (not my house) explores how different forms of language can coexist and how to enhance the accessibility of site-specific theatre.

During this residency, they’re working on a scene inspired by Julio Cortázar’s short story Casa Tomada. Jessie L’Herminez (director), Maarten van der Graaff and Tom Dello (writers), Funda Müjde, Mauricio de Kok and Ali Shafiee (actors) are exploring how to create multilingual theatre. Brother, played by Ali Shafiee, is deaf, and Sister, played by Funda Müjde, uses a wheelchair. A bizarre struggle ensues when unknown forces take over their home. In a world that’s always moving, do you stake your claim or settle for what you’re given? The tale is told in spoken Dutch, Dutch Sign Language, and audio description. At Oerol, you’ve got the unique chance to follow the creative process and sit in on a rehearsal.
