Theatre maker Davy Pieters explores the changing relationship between water and the lives of people living in coastal areas. During Oerol, she presents a first look into her creative process and showcases her work-in-progress, sharing stories with the audience by the sea—right at the spot where it all matters most.
Davy Pieters enters into dialogue with coastal communities around the world about what it means to live in areas that are under threat or already disappearing. During residencies on Terschelling, she researches contemporary coastal life and speaks with various island residents. Stories of the Shore is developing into a performance by the sea, in which different international coastal perspectives are brought together and the water itself plays a central role.
At Oerol, Davy will share fragments from her research and the first text and sound material. In this way, on Terschelling, you become witness to a work in progress. With a view of the sea, where the water is both a source of life and a threat, she invites you to connect with it.
Stories of the Shore is part of Werkplaats Oerol, where emerging and established makers, often in collaboration with partners, are given the space to develop site-inspired work. During the festival, several of these makers explicitly invite audiences to take part in their work in progress.
