Summer is just around the corner, which means the iconic artwork ‘De Streken’ will soon be on display again. Every year, this piece by artist Marc van Vliet returns to the dyke near Oosterend for four months. Standing proudly on the Wadden mudflats, De Streken is a tribute to Joop Mulder, the founder of Oerol. Joop and Marc shared a love for both the landscape and the Wadden. This connection between nature and art lies at the heart of both De Streken and Oerol. When visiting, generations of artists and visitors experience the Wadden landscape through Joop’s eyes.

De Streken in 2026
De Streken has held a special place on Terschelling for several years and can be admired again this upcoming summer. Due to rising costs, it is currently uncertain whether the work can return for its final year (2026). This is why we need your support! With your help, we can make the return of De Streken in the summer of 2026 a reality. The artwork has become a beloved landmark for Oerol-goers, islanders, and visitors alike. When you think of Oerol, you think of De Streken. We hope to preserve this meeting place so we can continue to inspire future generations of artists and visitors, and let them experience the landscape as Joop did.
How to Support
Especially for this occasion, Marc van Vliet created a miniature version of De Streken. You can support the project by purchasing this unique piece, now for the early bird price of €20,00 (excl. shipping) in the pre-sale through the VVV webshop. Your mini version will arrive in your letterbox in June/July, as it takes some time to produce. This limited edition of 2,000 pieces will help make the installation of the artwork in 2026 possible.
Bring De Streken into your home: place it on your bookshelf or nightstand! Prefer your miniature rusted? Then dip it in the (Wadden) sea and voilà!
