Live from West: Opium op Oerol 2025

Once again, Opium op Oerol sets up at the festival this year! Host Cornald Maas welcomes special guests at his table each evening, with the Wadden Sea as the backdrop. They discuss the performance they have seen that day at Oerol, share their experiences, and immerse viewers in the festival’s unique atmosphere. Regular guest in the programme is presenter Carolien Borgers. She introduces you to young theatre makers and reports from the festival grounds.

Meet the Guests

The week kicks off with writer Maartje Wortel, who recently published her book Camping, an ode to outdoor life and unexpected encounters. She will discuss the performance alongside actress Olga Zuiderhoek, known for classics like Turks Fruit and the hit series Penoza.

On Tuesday, June 17, journalist and author Antoinnette Scheulderman and her partner Michel van Egmond will join the table. Both are successful authors and born storytellers, who will reflect on the world of theatre and journalism.

Midweek, comedian Youp van ‘t Hek and presenter and theatre maker Debby Petter are the guests on the show. With their years of experience in the performing arts, they bring personal stories and their love for theatre to Terschelling.

On Thursday, it becomes a family occasion: brother and sister Aaf and Jelle Brandt Corstius take their seats at the table. Aaf is known for her columns, books, and podcasts, and Jelle as a television producer and journalist.

The week ends with a royal visit: Princess Laurentien van Oranje and her daughter Eloise stop by. Princess Laurentien has long been committed to promoting literacy, sustainability, and social change. Eloise, known for her candid and creative presence on social media, explores the festival together with her mother.

From Theatre to Music

Singer and actress Sarah Janneh, named acting talent of 2025 by de Volkskrant, will be seen and heard daily at Opium op Oerol this year. Each evening, she delivers a musical performance: from intimate solos to high-energy sets with her live band. Her shows are a unique blend of vocals, acting, and expression, in which she effortlessly moves between vulnerability and strength. Whether performing solo or with her band, Sarah Janneh gives a performances that leaves a lasting impression.
